NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The National Honor Society was founded with the purpose of
recognizing and encouraging academic achievement. The National Honor Society also has as its
goal the development of other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy. These characteristics are service,
leadership, and character. The purpose
of the organization is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a
desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in
individuals. All
current 11th and 12th graders who have maintained a 90
cumulative grade point average, including a minimum of 3 honors, pre-AP, and AP
courses completed or in progress, are eligible for the Tuloso-Midway Chapter of
the National Honor Society. A student
must have been in this school at least one semester. Students who meet the grade requirements will
be asked to fill out a student information packet to be reviewed and scored by
members of the faculty council. National
Honor Society membership is not based solely on academic achievement. NHS is an organization that recognizes
outstanding individuals who are able to balance academics with other
responsibilities and interests. NHS recognizes
those well-rounded individuals who serve as positive role models and contributors
to school life. Therefore, selection for
membership is based upon evidence of the following four qualities: scholarship, service, leadership and
character. Any additional information or assistance is available through the chapter advisor, Katie Owen, or the campus principal by calling 903-6700.
