Title I

 

What is Title?

It is the largest federal program in our nations schools.  It is an intervention program designed to ensure academic success for every student. Students who are in "most of need" are eligible to receive extra assistance to help them achieve their education.

Who is Eligible?

Criteria is established by each school district.  At Tuloso-Midway Primary, participation in the program is based on academic performance which is measured by individual testing.

Texas Primary Reading Inventory

The TPRI is a reading instrument for diagnosing reading skills development and comprehension in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade.  Tuloso-Midway uses the TPRI as an early reading instrument to ensure that students receive the targeted attention needed.

Administration Dates

The Kindergarten TPRI is given at the middle of the year and at end of the year.  The first and second Grade TPRI is given at the beginning, middle and end of the year.

 TPRI

There are several parts to the  TPRI.  Phonemic Awareness is the ability to detect and identify individual sounds within spoken words.  Graphophonemic Knowledge is the recognition of the letters of the alphabet and understanding of the sound-symbol relationship.  Graphophonemic Knowledge is the recognition of the letters of the alphabet and understanding sound-symbol relationships.  Listening Comprehension is the understanding of what is being read.

Reading

Reading Accuracy is the ability to read text accurately.  Reading Fluency is the ability to read accurately and quickly.  Reading Comprehension is the understanding of what has been read.

1st Grade Reading Goals

First graders need to read at an instructional or independent level.  Fluent first grade readers have a reading rate of 60 words per minute (wpm).

2nd Grade Reading Goals

Second graders need to read at an instructional or independent level.  Fluent first grade readers have a reading rate of 90 words per minute (wpm).

How Parents Can Help

Getting enough sleep is a critical part of your child's success at school.  Students in the primary grades need 9 to 10 hours of sleep each night.  Be a partner in your child's education.  Keep in touch with your child's teacher.  Children need to be in school everyday.  School begins at 7:45.
